This picturesque course has welcomed tour professionals such as Luke Donald, Davis Love and Jim Furyk. Phil Mickelson also happens to be an Honorary lifetime member.

Golfing legend Phil Mickelson, who named Lahinch his favourite links course in the world, is an honorary life member. In his own words, “Some of my fondest memories of great golfing holes in the world include the number four and five holes at Lahinch.” These are now the third and fourth holes, the fourth hole Lahinch Golf Course The Klondykebeing the infamous Klondyke, part of Old Tom Morris’ original design. According to one golfing enthusiast, “Nobody would build this hole today. I am so glad someone did in 1894.” Excellent reviews by Graylyn Loomis of Lahinch GC.

The Old Course was originally designed by Old Tom Morris, with later reworks by Alister MacKenzie. It is right on the seaside, with a wide panorama over majestic Liscannor Bay Co. Clare. It is indeed quite old: it was founded in 1892, making it one of the oldest golf courses in Ireland. It offers lots of blind shots, sand dunes and memorable holes. It is the more popular of the two courses at Lahinch Golf Club.

Lahinch Old Course was ranked the No. 23 Golf course in the world by a panel of 240 golf course architects, as published in the July 2013 edition of Golf Course Architecture.

The Castle Course: more forgiving, but still lots of fun

The other course, the Castle Course, is shorter and flatter, so less challenging, but still a lot of fun to play. Unlike the Old Course, it is not right by the sea. Thus, it is more sheltered and less windy than the Old Course. The castle after which this course is named is Dough Dough Castle Lahinch Golf The CastleCastle, whose ruins are visible from the golf course.
